  • I have 2 copies of My Grandfather Patrick Mongan’s Baptism Certificate

The first one was obtained in 1942 to enable him to get his old age pension in Liverpool where he had been working on the Docks since 1911.

The second one I obtained myself from Our Lady Star of the Sea Roundstone in the early 1990’s.  The Parish Priest at that time, Father Gabriel Charles, told me that this church held the records but that Grandfather had actually been baptised in St Bridget’s Church in Ballanafad. He had been a young Curate many years prior to my visit and knew my Grandfather’s home place well “ had stood on the floor” my grandfather’s parents were Mark Mongan and Mary King.  I have this proof but cannot obtain an actual Birth Cert. My DNA has been confirmed as 96%Irish 4% Scottish. North Connemara is established as my Ethnicity. My Grandfather’s siblings ( apart from his sister Mary) immigrated to Chicago.  Their offspring all contacted me from Chicago were they all live. We are exact matches and our common link is Mark Mongan and Mary King.

Has anyone else had the same problem with Birth Certification? Is it possible that Grandfather’s birth was not registered but only the ones who went to America had theirs registered?

Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you
