Good morning!

I’m pleased to have found this site and hope you might be able to assist.

My gggf Michael Hartneady was born in Tuamgraney c.1829 according to his death certificate of 1899 and his parents are listed as Michael Hartneady and Margaret Casey. This certificate is the only evidence I have of his parents. Michael married Bridget Connolly (of Feakle, County Clare) in Cape Town in 1862 but I have no documentation of the marriage. That would make him about 33 years of age at marriage.

Michael eventually immigrated to New Zealand with his wife and I’m pretty sure he had a sister called Margaret who also went. His children’s names are Margaret, Michael, Patrick Francis, Bridget, Ellen, Catherine and Maria. I have all their NZ birth records.

What I’m hoping you can do is give me any clues as to Michael’s baptism and that of any siblings in Ireland.

Also, his father is listed as a cooper on Michael’s death certificate so if there’s any chance of leads that can help with his life/death, as well as that of his wife Margaret, I’d be so grateful. I imagine he would’ve been born c.1790-1810.

Thank you and keep safe!

Yours sincerely,

Paul Selar.

    Hi Michael,

The name "Heartneady, Hartneedy, Hartnedy" does not appear in the 2019 printed telephone record for County Clare.

I refer you to the following free sites which will give you some information on the various families in the time period you are interesed in:

www.nationalarchives.ie - Tithe Applotments Records for years 1827 and 1828 for Civil parishes of Tomgraney, Ogonnelloe and Killaloe where you will find the aforementioned names

www.nationallibrary.ie for Roman Catholic Records for the parish of Kilnoe-Tuamgraney. This begins in 1832 with a few records and there are a number of baptisms with the name "Hartneady" for 1833, 1834 and 1835.  There is a baptism for January 25th 1833 for a "Connor" son of Michael Rohan and Mary Hartneady. Sponsors: Michael and Mary Hartneady. - Bridget - daughter of John Vaughan and Catherine Hartneady. Sponsors: Michael Hartneady and Anne Hartneady, January 30th 1834. Twin daughters to John Canny and Mary Hartneady - Bridget and Sally. Baptism August 12th 1835. Sponsors: Pat Torpy and Margaret Canny for Bridget, Michael and Mary Canny for Sally.

For land records in 1850's - www.askaboutireland.ie/Griffith's Valuations.
