Does any one know the family  of  Daniel Christopher Lynch. Born 17.12.1899 at Carrignavar near Killeagh, Cork? His fathers name was John and his mother may have been Mary. They had a farm at Carrignavar and I believe there were perhaps 10 siblings in all. Danny ran away to Portsmouth to join the Navy at the outbreak of WW1. He was underage and his father had to come to England to bring him home. I understand that he joined the Sinn Fein when his 2 cousins were killed by  'Black & Tans'  whilst they slept. He was caught and I've been told then ex-communicated. Subsequently he left Ireland for England. He never went back and never spoke of his family or Ireland again. He died in 1961 following a stroke. The Red Cross traced his family in order to let them know he had died but sadly my mother did not keep any information on them. It was the Red Cross who discovered he had been ex-communicated, which came as quite a shock as he'd kept it a secret.  If anyone has knowledge of my fathers family I'd be very grateful to hear about them. Many thanks,

Sue Cruh

  • Hi Sue,

It looks as if the link Roger gave you is the correct one. If you go to the 1911 census the same family appear with 3 more children but the address is given as Carrignavar parish of Dunbulloge townland of Killeagh but in the barony of Barrymore. It alo states that 9 children have been born but only 7 still living.

There must be a townland of Killeagh in that area which is quite close to the city.

Our Parish of KIlleagh is to the east between Midleton and Youghal. The Parish is Killeagh but we have various townlands within the Parish.

It looks as if your Killeagh is a townland near Carrignavar in the parish of Dunbulloge and not Killeagh parish.

There is 1 Daniel Lynch showing up in both census for KIlleagh village but he never married or left Killeagh.

    Regards for now. Anne.
