Hello, I've been trying for a very long time to locate the homeland of my ancestors who left during the great hunger. I've already search everything available online and am still at an impasse. Their were my 3x great grandparents James Flynn born about 1815 and Alice (maiden unknown) born about 1819. They had four children with them when the departed, Patrick born about 1839, Thomas born about 1841, my 2x great grandfather Michael born September 29, 1843, and Sarah born about 1847. I think they probably left around 1847/8. The family ended up in Toxteth Park, Liverpool, England and later my 2x great grandfather Michael emigrated with his wife (also Irish, Mary Swift/Foody) and children to Pawtucket,RI USA. James is buried in a pauper's grave in Liverpool, he died in 1869. The family alway just said they came from Cork. I'm not sure if that meant the city or just the general county. I'd appreciate any help in learning where they lived! Thanks! -Becky

Hello again!
I looked on www.irishgenealogy.ie which has the church records for the Diocese of Cork and Ross but did not see a record for Thomas. I then looked at Roots Ireland for the parishes in the Diocese of Cloyne and searched from 1836-1846 and found two 1845 baptismal records for a Thomas Flynn with father James but in netiher case was the mother Alice.
When I hear that someone came from Cork, I always wonder did they live in another county and just departed from Cork. In any event, I expanded the search on Roots for all of Ireland and added the the first name of Alice for the mother and also ended up with no record.
Hopefully, with the DNA testing you did, you will get some clues on where your Flynns came from.
