  • Patricia:

Our volunteers would need more information to be able to assist you finding where Daniel lived. Not disputing that he came from Co. Cork but McCann is primarily found in Ulster. This Irish Times site shows where the name was found in the mid-19th century in Ireland.

Only .3% of the McCanns were in Co. Cork.

  • thank you, roger.  i am going purely on family oral history, which doesn't seem too reliable and i, too, am finding McCanns in Ireland to be concentrated in the north.

my Daniel McCann married a woman named Jane circa 1847.  i do know that their daughter Jane was born in Ireland in 1848 and immigrated to USA in 1867.

  • I too have a McCann ancestor who was supposedly from Cork, according to the family story. She was Bridget McCann. She married George Chrisley (spelling of last name varied a lot) and a number of their children were born there in the period from about 1830 to 1837. They emigrated to Frontenac County, Ontario,Canada about 1837. They were Roman Catholic. I have searched the NLI Catholic parish records with zero success. We seem to be in the same boat. Have you discovered more since your post?
