My 3rd-Great Grandfather was David Power (as am I)
He came from Cork and best estimate is he was born 1770-1780. His father's name could have been James, and if my guess is correct James was a linen-draper in North Main Street.
The Powers must have been close to a family named O'Neill and one of David's sisters married an O'Neill. Their son 'John David Power O'Neill' married his first cousin, David's daughter Sophia.
David Power married in London in 1803, and as far as Iknow he did not live in Ireland after that. In his later life he held Government appointments in the colonies, and died in Berbice (now Guyana) in 1832. So we know a bit about David himself but virtually nothing about his own ancestry or siblings.
Love to hear from anyone connected with our Irish roots!
Regards David Power, Melbourne Australia

Dear David
Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out and apologies for the delay in getting back to you.
You could have a look at irishgenealogy.ie to see if you could be lucky with a search. Alternatively either rootsireland.ie (a subscription site) or familysearch.org (a free site) could be of use. Have you had any luck find his parents? names from his UK marriage record?
Best wishes

Since my previous post we have discovered:
- our David Power was born in 1780, according to the application for his marriage licence
- working the other way, (i.e.from older generations, specfically one Edmund FitzJames Power) we have discovered that one of his many grandsons was a James Power who would have been about 33 when David was born, so is a candidate for David's father.
- This James was cousin to the notorious Lady Blessington (nee Margaret Power), and we have a family legend that we are related to Lady B.
All found almost by accident, surfing the web!
