I'm writing to inquire for my genealogy pal, Kathleen, regarding her family, Richard Padden (1846-1919) and Mary McClane/Mclean (1867-1923) from Kilbride civil parish.  On 1901 and 1911 Richard Padden and Mary (McClane) Padden were living in Rathoonagh, Lackan South in the civil parish of Kilbride. In 1901 Richard was 50, his wife Mary was 33 and they had the following children: Mary (13), Domnick (6) who emigrated to the States abt. 1921, Honor (3), and Richard (2). In 1911 the family was living in the same place, all the same children were listed save for Richard who presumably died, and two more children Catherine 6 and Thomas 4 were born.  The birthplace name for several children was given as Cappagh.

My friend's grandmother, Elizabeth Padden (daughter of Richard Padden and Mary McClane Padden), was born abt. 12 May 1902 in Ballycastle. Elizabeth Padden was present at her mother Mary McClane Padden's death in Rathooonagh in 1923. Elizabeth later emigrated to New York, USA where she married Samuel Coulter.

Does anyone recognize this family? Are any living descendants of this family still in the area? It may also be that Richard Padden had a sister, Catherine Padden who married Michael Maughan in Ballycastle in 1881.  They had at least one son, Michael.  Richard and Catherine Padden's parents were most likely James Padden and Honoria M'Donnell.

I'll ask my genealogy pal, Kathleen, to join this site, but I thought I'd get the ball rolling for her.

Thanks!

Colleen Kennedy
