I am looking for anyone related to my grandmother Kate Waters 1880 - 1967.  She was living in or near Claremorris, Mayo, Ireland in 1912 when she married my grandfather Patrick Carroll 1875 - 1945.  I think that both has brothers and sisters but I don't know who they were.  Kate and Patrick had 5 children John, Margaret known as Peg and Catherine known as Kit who went to America.  Two sons Thomas and Denis remained in Ireland.

I think I located a possible 1911 census record for Patrick Carroll.  Looked for a record for Catherine/Kate Waters but could not find one in the Claremorris area. If you want to send away for the 1912 marriage record that record will show where Patrick and Kate were living and the names of their fathers. Let me know and I can forward the index record and how to get a copy.

  • Roger, thanks so much.  From this link I was able to find the Ward family which is the name of my Aunt Nora who was married to my Uncle Tom.  I have this information from Nora's niece who lives in Castlebar and shared her family information with me.

I think I have also found Kate Waters under the listing Thomas Walters.  The reason I think this is my grandmother is that it is in Coarsefield which on the my Dad's manisfest when he came to the USA.  If this is correct, I can't thank you enough for your help.  I was so frustrated.

It is possible that the census taker simply made a mistake and took Walters for Waters.  I know that my Dad and my Aunt Kit both told me that Kate inherited the land and that her family name was Waters.

    Once again, thanks a million.

Coarsefield is a 14 minute drive from Claremorris so I think you have the right family. Like you said, the census taker misunderstood the surname. The 1911 census has Waters.

  • From this, I was able to find the Trench family whose descendants are still living there, the Connor Family who are related in a round about way and the Hughes who are cousins to both my grandparents in that a relation of my grandfather married a relation of grandmother. I think there are still Hughes living there.
Once again thanks so much for your help.
