Hello! I'm looking for any information about my great-great-grandmother Bridget Egan (maiden name unknown) who had AT LEAST two children named William "Willie" Egan and Patrick Egan. She was widowed at some point before 1901 and was living with her sons on a small farm in a tiny area known as Sessiagh, in Tagheen parish, County Mayo. I am interested in any connection or any other Egans in that area who may be relations. Patrick moved to the USA by 1911, but I believe William stayed behind to run the household with Bridget. Thank you for ANY help or direction! :)

  • Hi Casey

There are 3 birth/baptism records for Patrick Egan with mother Bridget in 1885 + - 1 year in Mayo on www.rootsireland.ie/ One is 1884 & 2 are 1886 as he was aged 16 in the 1901 census he must have been born in 1885 or 1884 so the 1884 looks good

There are also 2 matches for William with mother Bridget both 1875 - 1 is a birth & 1 a baptism so both could be him. Both of William's records are from Crossboyne and Tagheen R C parish so looks like they are the same person. Annoyingly there is no record from that parish for Patrick.

It costs to view a full recordon rootsireland but you only need to purchase either the birth or the baptism for William if you think the parish sounds correct; the record MAY have his father's name and Bridget's last name.

  • My goodness! That information is fantastic. Thank you so much for your kindness and for taking the time to use your obvious expertise to find that for me (AND for explaining it so clearly). What a wonderful gift you have given us. I will do exactly as you suggested. My family and I are very, very grateful. Tank you so much again, and best wishes! :)

  • Thanks to your help, Col...I got the records you mentioned and determined that my great-great-grandmother was Bridget (Garvey) Egan....my great-great-grandfather was (also) a Patrick Egan....AND I located another sibling to William & Patrick (Jr?) named Mary Egan. Beyond that...I'm stuck again. Working on finding Patrick Jr's immigration to the US from Sessiagh,Ireland and trying to find out more about Bridget's Garveys. I never would have gotten here without your help. Thank you SO much again! I wish I had help to offer in return...but I'm at a loss. I do live in New England in the US (quite close to New York City)...so if you ever need info gathered around here, please let me know. :)
