Migrated to/Born in USA

Anna Stephenson from Ringwood, The Rower , Thomastown, Co. Kilkenny, married James Grace from Charlefield, The Rower, Thomastown, Co. Kilkenny, on 25th of November 1885. Anna was under age, James may have been in his late 20's. They were neighbours. Anna was born on 8th of November 1869. christened Joanna. James may have been born in 1856. The witnesses were parents of James Grace.

They moved to the United States. Apart from birth certs, and marriage cert the only other record is a letter.  Anna wrote to her parents on one occasion from an address 906 East 14 Street, Kansas City, Missouri. There is no mention of James in this letter. It is a very poignant letter written on Christmas Day 1901, begging her family to write to her, as she has not seen them or heard from them in 16 years. I do know that Anna did not remain at this address. There is no other record of the whereabouts of Anna Stephenson and no record of James Grace. An Anna Grace, travelled on the steam ship Pavonia, arriving in Boston on the 2nd of April 1888. A James Grace travelled to Boston on the steamship Iowa, arriving on the 29th of March 1888. I do not know if these are the same people.

Anna Stephenson was never mentioned again by her family. She was struck from all family inheritance.  I would love to acknowledge her letter and uncover the rest of her story.

Her grand niece,

Ann Stephenson.
