  • The name Belinda O'Dowd caught my eye because the married name of one of my Irish ancestors was Belinda Dowd. Alas, I cannot identify any other connection between the two families. The Belinda Dowd in my family was Belinda Coffey (aka Bella) circa 1791, location unknown. She married John Kerr Dowd in Athlone, Co. Roscommon in 1814, and died in Athlone in 1856.  One of her children died in childhood, four daughters (including Arabella) emigrated to  Australia together in 1850, and I am still trying to discover what happened to the other two sons and one daughter. Perhaps there could be a link there.

On another branch of my family tree, I have a Bridget Mary who may have actually been christened Mary Bridget.  I agree with Rua that you have an amazing photograph of your ancestor.

  • What a lovely photograph.  Have I got it right that the Mother Jane, was 9 when she was married and 12 when she had Belinda. My word that is young.

  • Rua. and brianandcarole, Thank you. The photo was taken in the United States at my parents wedding back in Feb. 1936.

brianandcarole, The dates for her Mother and Father are incorrect. I have not been researching my Tree for awhile now. I am just getting back to it.

IrishGreatGrands , My Belinda O'Dowd was born BRIDGET O'DOWD per the Certified Copy of her Birth Register that I have.  My Belinda married Patrick Finnegan on 10 Jan 1911 in Skreen, Sligo. The first time I found Bridget using the name Belinda was on the `1911 Census of Ireland. And then on the Ships Manifest when she came from Liverpool, England in June 1923.
