She was born on 21 February 1881 at Tombreane, Co Wicklow, the daughter of James and Margaret Allwell (née Maher), and was baptised on 22 February 1881 at St Brigid Church, Tomacork, Co Wicklow.

She was resident in Tombreen when she married James O'Neill on 9 August 1910 at St Brigid Church, Tomacork.  After their marriage, they lived in a cottage next door to the school in Raheengraney for most of their married life, apart from a short spell in 1915, when they lived at 29 Lower Clanbrassil Street, Dublin.  They had returned to live at Raheengraney by September 1917.

They had five children: James (1913-1989); Anne (1915-1980); John (1917-1987); Margaret Mary (1919-2009); and Bridget (1921-2000).

Bridget died on 5 September 1922 in the family home at Raheengraney.  She was buried on 7 September 1922 at St Brigid Church, Clonegal, Co Carlow.
