Born in 1875 to Patrick & Elizabeth (Hart) MacSherry. Launtaggart in Glencar where her father farmed. About 1895 she left home for America and settled in Manhattan, New York. This is when she began to use the anglicized version of MacSherry "Foley". In 1904 she married Patrick McLoughlin He was newly to America himself, only arriving in 1901 from Raghly, Lissadill West in County Sligo. Together they had 5 daughters.
