Catherine Byrne Farrell was born in Graig, Kilkenny, Ireland and baptized 8 May 1865. Her parents were James Byrne and Mary Delahunty. Catherine emigrated to America around 1882, arriving in New York City. On 30 May 1884 she and Michael C. Farrell were married at St. Peter's Church on Barclay Street in Manhattan. They had eleven children, but three of them died at a young age. Michael worked on the docks as a longshoreman. 

One of their children was my grandmother, Veronica (Bridget) Farrell, born in 1899 in New York City.

Catherine Farrell died 3 Oct. 1939 and is buried at Holy Cross Cemetery in Brooklyn. She is a first cousin to the famous baseball player, "Big Ed"Delahanty, who was born in Cleveland, Ohio in 1867 and died in 1903.
