Ellen Dundon with her half-sister Anne immigrated on the “SS Merkara: arriving in Maryborough, Queensland, Australia the 10th November 1890. Ellen was 27 and Annie was 20. The girls were passed to Mrs. Hutchinson a hotel Keeper in Gympie.
Ellen married Joseph Maccae. Born Gissep Maccae he is a French immigrant and is a timber getter in Curra. Joseph and Ellen move into Maryborough. In 1903 she is living in Scrubby Creek Lane off River Road, as Ellen Rowlands. In 1905 Ellen is Mary Ellen Rowlands domestic duties. 1906 she is listed as Mary Ellen Rowlands living at Scrubby Creek Lane. 1908 and 1909 still Mary Ellen Rowlands at Scrubby Lane. 1919 she is now Ellen Maccae and living in River Road.
NB. I believe Ellen separated from her husband and changed her name using her brother in law for protection. There is no sign of Joseph nor a death record perhaps he returned to France.
