My Great Grandfather was George James Cullen b. January 1843 in County Dublin, Ireland, (parents were Michael and Margaret ? Cullen) wife was Margaret McDermott b.1845 in Ireland (parents were Pattrick McDermott and Honoria Halligan). They were married 16, Oct. 1864 in Droim Seanbho, County Leitrim,. They had 6 children:  Micheal George Cullen b.10, Sept. 1868 in Drumshambo Leitrim, Patrick Morris McMahon Cullen b. 13, Sept. 1870 in Dublin North, County Dublin, christened in #3 North City, Mary Jane Cullen b. 1875 in No 3 South City Dublin, George M. The story goes that George James Cullen was imprisoned by the British during the uprisings and shipped to Tasmania or Australia. En-route he jumped ship in South America and made his way to the US first in Baltimore then on to Philadephia. When he was shipped off from Ireland he left behind a wife and 3 young children. His wife, Margaret, died leaving behind George M (b. 1875 or 1876), Martin Richard (b. 1880) and Margaret Mary (b.1878). They boys were sent to St. Kyrans work house or Christian Brothers school in Artane. Margaret was sent to Sisters of Mercy orphanage in Rathdru. who died as a child in an orphanage run by the Sisters of Mercy in Rathdrum.

George M. (son) immigrated first to England then on to US but dates are unknown. Martin R. (son) left at the age of 13 (so 1893?) after leaving the Rathdrum Christian Brothers orphanage. Martin ended up in Philidelphia living with his father and George M. continued on to Colorado where he ended up in Pueblo Colorado working in a steel mill and married a woman whose parents were born in Ireland and married in Cork, as well.
