John's death certificate states that he died at 1 Farrell St. Port Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.  His occupation is given as 'carpenter'.  The cause of death was 'senile decay' and he had been deteriorating for 'some years'.    He is listed as having been born in County Clare, Ireland and as having been living in Victoria for 23 years.  His marriage to Margaret Slattery is said to have taken place when he was 40 in County Clare, Ireland.  His children are listed as Mary aged 47, Patrick aged 45, Ann aged 40, Norah aged 38 and Michael aged 36.  The informant is named as John's son-in-law John Whealon, senior constable of Port Melbourne.  John was buried on 27th November 1891 in the Melbourne General Cemetery.

The baptisms of two of John Hickey & Margaret Slattery's children have been found in the Roman Catholic parish registers for Ireland.  These were for :

- Anne Honora Hickey baptized in Killaloe, Killaloe, Co Clare on 13 May 1847.  Parents residence listed as Fahermore (or Faheymore).  Sponsors were Dennis and Ellen Hickey of Fahermore.

- Patrick Hickey baptized Broadford, Killaloe, Co Clare on ? Mar 1845.  Sponsors were John Hickey & S----y Slattery.  No residences listed in the register.

Since John Hickey was a carpenter it is not surprising that the family would have been moving around.  Unfortunately a search of surrounding parishes has not resulted in the location of further baptisms for John & Margaret's marriage or for their other children.
