Migrated to/Born in USA

Mary Carthy born 1839 in Clonmoher, County Clare.  Her family thought she was born in 1832 but I found a baptismal record for Mary Carty daughter of Pat Carty and Norry Shouldnise (Shaughnessy could have been transcirbed at Shouldnise - which sounds phoenetically like Shaughnessy).

Daughter of Patrick Carthy and Honoria Shaughnessy - where they were born is unknown.

Married John Tuohy of Coolreagh, Clare

Mary and John had six children; John b.1864, Hugh b. 1866, Thomas b.1868,  Margaret b 1870, Michael b.1871 and Honora/Nora/Norry b 1872) in Gortacullin, Kilseily, Limerick, Co Clare.  My hypothesis is that Thomas and Hugh were the first to immigrate to New York, US about 1886 then Margaret and Norry arrived in NY about 1888 and John with his mother Mary arrived in 1889. On arrival in the US many in the family were known as Toohey.  Sometime in the mid-late 1880's John Sr  must have died in Ireland and Mary, his wife immigrated to Granville, NY.  Unsure when Michael immigrated. They originally settled in Hartford, Washington Co, NY with the exception of Nora/Norry who settled in Albany, NY. After a few years, the family moved to Granville, Washington Co, NY - this was about the time Margaret married John Dolan White of Granville, NY.  In the early 1890's Hugh and Thomas moved to Waltham, MA  Then sometime in the 1920's, Margaret Toohey & John White and their family of 9 children moved to Waltham, MA.   John Jr. stayed in Granville, NY.

I am looking to find out more about John Tuohy - I have a DNA connection to "cousins" in Feakle, Co Clare.

I would also like to find out more about Mary Carthy and her parents.
