Mary McDonnell was baptised in Lisdowney on 23 Aug 1821. She was the illegitimate daughter of James McDonnell and Biddy Moran.

She did not marry at the age of 13 as the entry suggests. When she married John Baldwin at St Mary's in Kilkenny City 0n 15 Aug 1842 it is possible that she married on her 21st birthday. She and John had 4 children in Ireland: John, b.1843; an unnamed (stillborn) in 1845; Mary Ann in 1846 - all in Kilkenny City - and William, b.1848 at Maryborough, Laois, Ireland. William died on the journey to Fremantle in 1853.
