Michael, always known as Pat, was a conundrum to his family. He never talked about his early life or origins in Ireland. Nor did he seem to have any family living there . A practising Catholic, but no baptismal certificate located. In fact no documentary evidence whatever has come to light to confirm his background. Yet his accent and culture was recognisably that of Leitrim. He let slip that there had been some sort of trouble back in Ireland, but that was as far as it got. We know that as a young man he worked on the railway at Dromod and oddly he finished his working life as a Railman for British Rail on Rugby station.
We have to conclude that 'Michael John' had - what seemed to him - to be good reasons to conceal his past. But for us, his family, it leaves a huge hole and half our family is completely unknown to us.
So, if you have a missing Doyle in your tree could it be our Michael?
