Patrick Ford was born on the 12th of April 1837 in Galway to Edward and Ann Ford. 

He emigrated with his parents to Boston in 1845. 

Having left school at 13, he started working as a printer’s devil two years later for the “Liberator”.  He started writing in 1855 and by 1861 he was the editor and publisher of the “Boston Tribune”. 

He eventually settled in New York and founded the “Irish World” – this became the principal newspaper of Irish America.
