Back to List

Thomas O'Connor emigrated from Ireland in about 1825 to New York.  After his immigration, he married perhaps twice to unknown wives, possibly Emily Dyer and Emma King, and had two known children.  The first was Mary Jane O'Connor born in New Haven, CT.  The second was Nancy O'Connor born near Youngstown, Ohio.  Thomas later married Mary Elizabeth McCann about 1839 or so.  He and Mary Elizabeth McCann were living in Crossingville, Crawford County, PA in 1850 with their six children.  He moved his family to Jackson Township, Venango County, PA by 1860 where he died.

Later yDNA tests suggest an exact 37-marker match with descendants of Morty O'Connor who emigrated from County Clare to New York in 1849.  Three of Morty's children were born in the early 1840s in County Clare, Ireland; and later baptized in the Ibricken church located in Kilmurry, County Clare, Ireland.  Their mother was noted as Catherine Hickey.  This family has ties to families located in Iowa and Kansas.  It is not known how Thomas and Morty were related in Ireland.
