  • Hi,  I have a Mary Rea (Wray) Roscavey, Co Tyrone, born about 1837 , father Thomas Rea, who married Alexander Cousins. One witness at their wedding was James Rea.

As Roscavey is in the Clonfeacle Parish - thought that perhaps there could be a relationship between Mary and your Thomas.

  • HI maheath

Thanks for posting this. I beleive that Thomas and Ann brought all their children out to Australia in 1841.  So the nearest I can guess would be that my Thomas Rea and Mary's father Thomas might be cousins.  It is hard as C.I. parish of Clonfeacle [Armagh diocese] earliest registers were destroyed in Dublin. The extracts from vestry minutes, 1763-1831. (PRONI: ref. T.679/43) might have something but generaly the Baptisms, 1869-; marriages, 1845-; burials, 1870-; vestry minutes, c.1870. are in local custody. Don't know if this helps you but I am too far away to see these records in person.

    Kind Regards

    Kevin

  • Hi from Australia

Im researching REA family on behalf of my husband Dennis Rea who is a direct descendant of Thomas Rea and Ann Kirk. I have alot of information on the Rea family from Thomas and Ann through to today. The hardest for me was the Rea line I had to follow had alot of Thomas Wilson (alias Wilson Rea) through the generations and took some time to sort out.

Thomas Rea born 1802 Ireland, died 1886 Bathurst NSW Australia. Married Ann Kirk 1824 Ireland (approx - I cant find any documentation or info)

Thomas Wilson Rea (alias Wilson) born 1822 Belfast Ireland, died 1902 Bathurst NSW Australia. Married Ellen (Eleanor) Lew 1843. Came to Australia 1841

Thomas Wilson Rea (Alias Wilson) born 1863 Bathurst, NSW Australia, died 1943, Bathurst, NSW Australia. Married Sarah Alice Clarke 1912

Clive Alison Rea born 1918 Bathurst NSW Australia, died 1981 Wagga Wagga Australia. Married Philomena Minner 1939

Barry John Rea born 1942 Wagga Wagga Australia, died 1998 Parkes NSW Australia. Married Margaret Barker

Dennis Rea born 1967 Parkes, NSW Australia - married Lynette Tod 2012

From the above you can see the line Im following.

I have come up with nothing for the first Thomas Rea mentioned above mother and father. All I have is Thomas Rea born 1777 (very approx) and mother - Hannah (Nancy) Gough born 1783 (very approx).

I would appreciate any assistance or information you can give me from the Ireland end. There is very conflicting information (for example) on where Hannah Gough died - some sites have Canada (?).

If you can assist it would be greatly appreciated and if I can be of assistance this end let me know.

    Please reply to: Lynden1960@gmail.com.

    Many Thanks

    Lyn Rea
