Migrated to/Born in USA

Violet Hunter was born in County Tyrone, nine miles from Londonderry, Ireland. When sixteen years old she sailed from Londonderry, and after a long and stormy passage of six weeks, landed in New York, where she remained some two months, then came to Philadelphia by steamboat, thence to her uncle Houston's in Shafferstown, Lebanon Co, by stage, where she arrived October 31, 1818. She remained with her uncle nine months, then came to Lewistown, Mifflin Co, where she resided a short time, doing work in a hotel. From there she went to the Kishacoquillas valley, where she met with Thomas Bailey, to whom she was married on the 31st day of August, 1824.

Violet and Thomas had two daughters and six sons.

New Type In September of 1820, Violet, her sister Margaret, an infant George Anderson, and Spinster Elizabeth Hunter, all landed in America. Elizabeth was Margaret's middle name and Elizabeth was possibly Violet and Margaret's mother, as family records mention that "Later, Grandfather's mothers and sisters came over. His mother's maiden name was Huston. His sister Margaret married Uncle Charley McCafferty, and Violet married Uncle William Hailey; they both lived in Clarion County." The account had an error in it: Violet's husband was Thomas Bailey, son of Elisha Bailey Sr., not William Hailey. VIEW SOURCE
