Is William related to Joseph Lawson, birth date 1744? Joseph and his wife Jane McFarland emigrated to the US about 1838. My father's name is John William Lawson. There are several William's in our family tree.

All I really know is that William Lawson came into Canada in about 1845 and he was born in Ireland. Other DNA matches have Lawsons that were born in County Armagh, then went to Rutherglen, Scotland and eventually Australia and New Zealand. I am not sure if my William is related to those Lawsons or not. I know that William ended up in Lanark, Canada where he lived for about ten years with his wife and children. They moved to New York around 1870 where he died. I would love to know where he came from and if he was part of the Irish that went first to Scotland and then to other parts of the world.
