My great grndmother, Mary Connell was born in Waterford on 9/15/1831 and died 10/9/1909 in Delevan, Illinois, USA. . Her Mother, Mary Welsh (1798-Waterford) and father, James Connell (Cork) lived in New York City until he was killed in 1831 building the subways in New York. Mary Welsh returned to Ireland. Mary Connell married Patrick Cullinan (Cork) (1828-1909). I am looking for any additional information/parishes on the Connells and Welshes. Thank you!

  • Hi there,

Could you please post your message on the County Waterford profile page here: http://www.irelandxo.com/group/county-waterford

You could try looking for additonal information the newspapers or official city archives. The subway incident might be mentioned and there might be more information for you in them.

Do you have any idea what part of Waterford or Cork they are connected to? These are big counties and if I had some idea where they originated, I would then be able to guide you in the right direction.

In the meantime, you could try checking the land records called the Tithe Applotment Books (1823-38) or the later Griffith's Valuation (1848-64). Griffith's is freely available here: www.failteromhat.com This website also has lots of additional information, and actually has some more information specific to Cork. Griffith's can also be found here: www.askaboutireland.com

Please make sure you link anyone else in your family who is interested in their Irish heritage to our site - and indeed anyone else you know of Irish heritage.

    Kind regards,
