Meanwhile, Irish newspapers carried advertisements for various ships offering passage to America, including:

“The Splendid First-class Fast-sailing…American Packet Ship, Bachelor…Her accommodations for Cabin, Second Cabin, and Steerage passengers will be found on inspection to be superior…”

When the Bachelor sailed to Dublin in July 1847, rather than stop in Liverpool before returning to Richmond, she sailed to New York with 109 passengers, one of whom was twenty-six-year-old John B. Hyland.
