On 25 March 1613, the Borough of Boyle was incorporated by the James I, King of England. The corporation was styled "The Borough-Master, Free Burgesses, and Commonalty of the Borough of Boyle".

Until it was disenfranchised by the Act of Union, the Borough of Boyle returned two members of parliament. Lord Lorton, Earl of Kingston, to whom the Borough belonged, received £15,000 compensation for this loss of privilege.
