James Patrick McGowan born 1814 or 1816. From Co. Kildare, Ireland. Mother possibly Mary McDaniel. He was a school headmaster.
He was married with children upon leaving for the US in 1840. He ended up in White Rock, RI then Connecticut. A widower, he remarried Rose Costello Rice (a widow) with a daughter, Margaret Rice.
Thomas and Rose had several children together including my great grandfather Thomas Henry McGowan born approximately in 1863. He married Mary Hough in the 1890s in Jewett City, Conn. They had 8 children including my Nana Helen Mary McGowan Dwojakowski in 1904.
