In addition to arranging a Meet & Greet with a local IrelandXO volunteer, another thing you can do well ahead of your visit is to reach out to the local media with a request for family information. You could also scour the family notices for mention of a name you or researching, or publish one of your own.
Remember, to reach older people in the community (the custodians of all the connection memory gold) don't forget to post a bulletin notice in the Parish Newsletter.
