Ellen Langen was born in Dungarvan, County, Ireland about 1830. At the age of 21, she left Ireland and moved to
Shullsburg, Lafayette County, Wisconsin, USA. There she married John Carey in 1852. They had 12 children.
In 1888 the family moved to Bueno Vista, Iowa where Mr. Carey died in 1900.
In 1913 Mrs. Ellen (Langen) Carey moved to Storm Lake, Iowa to live with her son, William Carey.
She died of "the Grippe" on February 12, 1917. The funeral was held at St. Mary's Catholic Church.
Mrs. Carey is buried at Storm Lake, Buena Vista, Iowa.
