I will be visiting Ireland in May 2023 and would like to visit the birthplace of several grandparents and make connections with relations if possible.

My grandfather, Patrick McCusker was born around 1880 most likely in Cullenreamer, Tyrone.  He emigrated to the US. His father Bernard McCusker was born around 1840 in Cullenreamer, Tyrone and died there in 1878.  His wife, Bridget Hackett, was also born died in Cullenreamer.  She lived from 1840 to 1911.  She died in Armagh.

My maternal grandmother, Rose Ann Pryor, was born in 1888 in Northern Ireland, but I am not sure where.  She and my grandfather may (according to Ancestry.com) have married in 1912 in Kileeshil Parish in the diocese of Armagh. She also emigrated to the US.

Although I realize this is a Tyrone message board, I would also like to mention my paternal grandmother, Mary Ellen Branson (maiden name Groark) who was born on16 Nov 1889 Swinford, County Mayo.  Her father's name was Thomas Groark, born in 1865.  Her mother was Mary Ellen Sheridan.  She was born in Bohola, Mayo.

Any information about those above, including any living descendants would be appreciated.  Thanks.

  • You posted an earlier message on November 30th. Our volunteer, Elwyn, provide a fairly extensive response on your McCusker family. Did you see the response? See the link below. In that response I also indicated that I could not find a civil birth record for a Mary Ellen Groark born to the parents you listed. I also could not locate any sibling records. I did find a Thomas Groorke family in the 1901 census, mother was Mary and there was a Mary E. age 17. Take a look at the record and see if this looks like your family. They lived in Meelick parish not far from Bohola (just to the north). http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Mayo/Brackloon/Castles… Roger McDonnell https://www.irelandxo.com/ireland-xo/message-board/visiting-ireland-and…

  • OK. I located the civil marriage record for Thomas Groark and Mary Sheridan. They were married in Bohola chapel in February 1888. See first record https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/marriage_re… Based on the 1888 marriage, I think we can rule out the 1901 census record I forwarded to you. I will continued to look for the record for Mary Ellen. Roger

  • No luck finding a birth record for Mary Ellen. I assume the family stayed in Ireland? Roger
