Andrew McBreen Sr (1784 – 1872) of Drumeague (Knockbride), farmer, was recorded in the Tithe Applotment of Drumeague in 1827 next to Owen McBreen and near Thomas McBreen. Owen held 14 Irish acres, Andrew held 8 and Thomas 4. 

  • In 1841, Catherine McBreen of Drumeague married Phil Smith of Drumeague witnessed by Owen & Bryan McBreen. 

  • In 1844, Patt McBreen & Biddy Morgan of Cornavilla invited Phil McBreen & Catherine McBreen to godparent their son Andy.

In the 1856 Griffith's Valuation of DrumeagueAndrew McBreen Sr (1784 – 1872) of farm #4a was recorded with 33 statute acres.

  • Adjoining at farm #2a Charles McBreen had 27 acres with a John & Andrew McBreen renting labourer’s cottages from him (#2b & #2c). Charles McBreen married Hannah Lucas in 1835. His father was likely Charles McBreen (b.1765 son of William McBreen) of Corravilla (adjoining Drumeague) farmer who married Mary McCarney of Larawehan (cottiers daughter) in 1805. 

Just before Christmas in 1872, Andrew Sr died a widower, age 88, with Patt McBreen present aka Patrick McBreen. It would appear that this Patrick McBreen inherited Farm #4a.

Two years later, Andrew McBreen Jr aka Andy McBreen (1802 – 1875) farmer, of Drumeague died married, age 73, with Andrew McBreen III present (signed X his mark). Andy was married to Anne Cox (Children Rose McBreen b.1842) and Patt McBreen was his brother.  

Two years later, John McBreen (1811 – 1877) of Drumeague, farmer, died age 66 with Mary McBreen present (signed X her mark).

In 1883, Phillip McBreen of Drumeague, labourer, buried his wife Catherine who died age 53


In the Census of 1901, there were 3 McBreen households recorded in Drumeague:

  • #2 Farmer Patrick McBreen & Catherine (m circa 1870) and family; in 1908 his son James McBreen (age 41) married Mary Anne Reilly of Corlatty Carroll.

  • #11 Agricultural labourer Thomas McBreen & Brigid and family (renting from Matthew Lynch who was married to Anne McCaffrey. Lynches farm was further south-east in Drumeague next to Corravilla).

  • #12 Agricultural labourer John McBreen & Rose Reilly (m.1884) and family; (renting from Matthew Lynch) This John McBreen was the son of Phillip McBreen and his siblings included Philip McBreen Jr and Mary A McBreen.

In the Census of 1911, there were 2 McBreen households recorded in Drumeague:


Andrew McBreen IV (1917 – 1949) of Drumeague, farmer, died a bachelor age 32 , with his brother James McBreen of Drumeague present in 1949.
