  • Ann’ s father Henry Brierly was enlisted in the 49th Regiment of Foot from 1821 to 1841 stationed in Roscrea. Her husband John Holland enlisted in the 49 th Foot in Hertfordshire in 1839. And went to Roscrea he was in the army until 1859.   Therefore I am sure this is how Ann and John met.     I find earlier generations of Brierly were professional soldiers. So far I have found they served during the Crimean War, the Opium Wars in China and Henry’s father was in China for 12 years. An earlier Brierly was at the battle of Waterloo.....Allwent from Roscrea.....Was there a garrison in or near Roscrea ?
