James Boardman was born c1820.   He served in the Royal Irish Constabulary between 1844-1868 in Limerick and later Cork and is recorded as a Native of Londonderry.

In Loghill, Limerick on 26 July 1856, James married Bridget Madigan .

Bridget Madigan (b1831) was the daughter of Thomas Madigan (1799-1883?) and Bridget (nee Fitzgerald) of Rathkeale, Limerick.

Their children were Mary Jane (b. 1858-1944), Bridget (b. 1859), Thomas Robert (b. 1862-1939), Harriet Allice (b. 1864) and Matilda Ann (b. 1865-1945) all born in Cork.

James Boardman died 24 January 1870 in Mallow, Cork and his wife Bridget died 2 January 1867 also in Cork, leaving a young family to be brought up by relatives.

Mary Jane, Thomas Robert and Matilda Ann later ( separately) emmigrated to New Zealand.  Harriet Allice emmigrated to Pennsylvania, USA.
