Edward left from Dublin, Ireland at the age of 10 around 1749-50 bound for the West Indies.

He was unaccompanied and going to live with his late father's brother.

Because of a shipwreck in bad weather (possibly the hurricane of October 1749) he ended up in Baltimore MD, USA.

He married, fought in the Amerian Revolution, and found time to raise 11 children (6 girls and 5 boys) most of whom reached adulthood before he died in the Spring of 1829 in what is now Cabel County, WV, USA.

  • 23 & Me reports the strongest evidence for my ancestry is in 1) County Cork and 2) County Dublin. I am told by my family that Edward left from Dublin, but don;t know if he lived there or not. I suppose that it's possible that the family lived originally in Co, Cork and moved to Dublin later for some reason.
