Eliza Oakes, born in Dublin about 1831, daughter of John Oakes. At the age of 25yrs, she sailed for Fremantle, Western Australia, via Plymouth, 14th January 1859, on the ship "Hamille Mitchell", arriving in the new Swan River Colony {nowPerth}, 6th April 1859. There were 103 Irish girls amongst the passengers. [possibly a Bride Ship]

In 1860, she married & had 2 children. She later worked as a cook, in the Convict Depot [Mt. Eliza Old Men's depot situated on the banks of the Swan River] & met and married Thomas Harris, an orderly & gardener at the same place.  They had 3 children, one of whom is my Grt grandfather, Thomas Markham Harris. 

Eliza died in 1906, aged 75yrs, at Perth Public Hospital from TB. She had lived in the Colony for 41yrs. Thomas Harris died in 1900, also after being in the Colony for 50yrs. {76yrs}
