I'm researching my great grandmother ELLEN GALLAGHER who was born about 1848 in Donegal. Ellen is the daughter of THOMAS GALLAGHER and ELIZA MARY McCARROLL 1829-1865.  Thomas and Eliza had a son, JAMES GALLAGHER, in Govan in 1864.  James married AGNES McLAUGHLAN in Kilmarnoxck in 1885.  The date of the Gallagher family's immigration to Govan is unknown.

Robert's first wife, ELIZABETH JENKINSON, died in 1873 in Govan from smal pox leaving their two children William and Susan motherless.

Ellen, a bleachfield worker, became the second wife to widower ROBERT RICE on 27 Nov 1874 in Govan.  She signed her name with an X.  Witnesses to the marriage at the United Presbyterian Church were THOMAS RICE, JOHN COKE, JOHN CUMBERLAND and JANE McCABE.

In 1901 Robert and Ellen lived in Govan along with their children: Jane aka "Jenny," William, Alice and Elizabeth.  ROBERT RICE died before 1906.  ELLEN GALLAGHER died in the Govan Poorhouse in 1905.
