I am descended from Ellen Quillinan, born in 1810. Ellen’s parents are Mary Harding/Harden and Denis Quillinan. [According to a researcher, Mary was born in 1791 and baptised on 23 October 1791 in Silvermines, Solohead Parish, Tipperary. Mary married Denis Quillinan in 1810, in Silvermines, Solohead Parish, Tipperary. Denis was born in 1790 and died on 15 August 1834 in Mount Bruis, aged 44. Notes: “Raheen Upper townland, Solohead parish, Tipperary…is about 2 miles north of Tipperary Town. Raheen Upper is about 123 acres in size and was divided into 5-6 farms that were all leased by Quillinan relatives since before 1750… Denis was a teacher in his own school in Tipperary town in 1834, in addition to having his own farm.”]

Ellen Quillinan married Patrick Horan on 9 February 1835 in Cullen, Solohead. They were farmers and emigrated with their children [Sarah 16, Daniel 15, Mary 12 (my g g grandmother), Margaret 10, John 8, Ellen 3] from Cullen; they travelled on the Blenheim, sailing from Plymouth 22 November 1853, arriving in Melbourne, Victoria, on 28 February 1854. They settled and farmed in Elphinstone, in the Shire of Mount Alexander; and Ellen died on 5 August 1881 and is buried in Castlemaine Cemetery.
