Reverend Henry Livingstone Ruske was born 4th May 1867 in Lismagiril, Bailieboro, Cavan.  His parents were Robert and Jane Ruske. He trained as a teacher at Trinity College, Dublin then he studied theology at Durham University, England.  While in Yorkshire he met Annie Booth of Middlesbrough who was 13 years younger than him.  Her parents are thought to have disapproved of the idea of them getting married. Henry took up a teaching post in Cape Town South Africa either in 1904 0r 1905.  Annie followed him to Cape Town in 1906 being escorted by two of her brothers.  Henry and Annie were married on 18th September 1906 in St Barnabus Parish Church, Cape Town.  They lived at various addresses over the years.  They had two sons and a daughter, Mary, who died of diphtheria aged 7.  Henry died on16th August 1943 at Linthorpe, Fish Hoek.
