BIRTH
Judith Brien was from Tullaroan (sounds like ThurrarOOang) Townland in County Kilkenny, Ireland as calculated from her residence at the time of her marriage. As of 2021, no birth records for Tullaroan residents could be found for those born before 1843. Calculated from the Roman Catholic parish record of marriage, Judith was born about 1815. Tullaroan Township was in the Civil Parish of Tullaroan in the Catholic Parish of Freshold. (In 1843 the Catholic Parish changed its name.) Ossary was the Diocese. The largest nearby town was Freshford, about five miles north. As of 2021 her parents were unknown.
MARRIAGE AND FAMILY
She married in Freshford, in County Kilkenny, because it was the nearest town with a Roman Catholic church to her residence. The church was in the Freshford (“green field”) Civil and Catholic Parishes in Ossary Diocese. Judith Brien married Redmond St John in 1838 in one of the two St Lachtain's churches in Freshford. The current Roman Catholic church was completely rebuilt in 1844 and all traces of the earlier chapel were lost when the new church was built. Judith and Redmond St John moved to Earlshill Townland in County Tipperary where they had at least three children, including John St John in 1840 who married Margaret Gleeson.
DEATH
A short time after having her last child, Catherine, in 1843, Judith Brien St John probably died. It is calculated that she died about 1844 in Earlshill Townland in the Ballingarry (Slievardagh) Civil Parish in the Ballingarry Catholic Parish in County Tipperary, Ireland -- possibly before she was 30 years old. In 1847 her husband, Redmond St John, remarried.
BURIAL
Judith Brien St John was almost certainly buried in South Tipperary near Earlshill Townland where she raised her children and died. Nearby graveyards were associated with churches (Saints Patrick and Oliver, St Mary's, and the Church of the Assumption). Nearby cemeteries were independent and show burials of Roman Catholics in Judith's lifetime (Lanespark, Ballinalacken, and Crosscannon).
