Comments

  • My great-grandmother was Ann Clarke born 28 June 1838 and baptised at St Anne's Bailieborough the same day.  Parents were Joseph Clarke and Mary Brady (Glesleck)??  Sponsors were Laurence Clarke and Kitty Brady. Ann came to Australia circa 1856 and married James Clough in 1861.

Do you think there could be any family link?

  • Hi Lesley

Its very possible they are related as there seem to be a good few Clarkes in Bailieborough. My Clarkes were protestant as far as I know.  I haven't come across the names of your family but then I haven't got too much information on my ancestor, Margaret Clarke, other than the marriage record which one of the volunteers on this site gave me. It showed that her father was Philip Clarke, a watchmaker. There are Clarkes in Bailieborough on the National Archives census website, well worth looking at see: http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie  There are 13 Joseph Clarkes on the 1901 census for Cavan, could one of them be yours?

I've tried searching on  familysearch.org, irishgenealogy.ie (church and civil records) and also the paid websites: Ancestry, Myheritage & Findmypast.  Because records were damaged alot in Ireland its hard to get all the information. I'm currently investigating Wiki tree.

If I come across your family, I'll let you know.

    kind regards

    June

  • Thanks June. Irish records can be very frustrating. I have used Family Search a little but not come across anything.
