Born to Thomas Mahony and Ann Moore of Cappanaghcallee townland, Skull parish, County Cork. Siblings included Mary (baptized 21 Feb 1829), Elizabeth (bap 23 Dec 1830), John Thomas (bap 22 Aug 1833), Robert (bap 22 May 1841), William (bap 6 Dec 1843), Hannah (bap 15 Oct 1846), and Ann (bap 2 Dec 1849). Margaret and John emigrated to the United states c.1850 arriving in New York and then making their way to San Francisco c.1860. She married David Wyer Hall c.1860 and had two children, David Wyer John Hall, who died in infancy, and Mary Ann Hall  (1861-1938), Following husband David's death in 1875, she married widower Jean Jacques Batsere in 1878 and had a daughter, Sarah Ann Batsere (1880-1960). Her brother John Thomas Mahony, who worked as a carpenter, died in 1901, the same year as her second husband Jean.

I know very little about the rest of the family other than records show that Thomas was still renting land in Cappanaghcallee townland in 1867. Any other information would be greatly appreciated.

Beverley Downing Penzien, grand-daughter of Mary Ann Hall Downing

  • Hi Beverely,

I can look up information for you over the next few days and would have today but saw your query too late in the evening.

You can look at the following website and get the best information available.

    irishgenealogy.ie

In the page that opens, click on the Civil Records tab. On page that follows. only type in the surname O'Mahony   Do not use a forename. leave blank. In the date range, use 1862 - 1900. in County use Cork. In Civil Registration use Schull with this spelling. Click on all options in Births, Marriages & Deaths. You will get a large range of O'Mahony's this way and the best way then is to type in a forename such as Thomas in the Search box and click on search again. If using any other searches use the Townland name Cappanacallee with this spelling. It will not help the search but you can use it to help identify the correct family

One last few words for tonight, for speedier response, direct any further queries directly to me at frankfahy054@gmail.com   as it saves a lot of time for me. I am a volunteer with Ireland XO for the West Cork area. Frank Fahy
