Back to List

Patrick Kilrahil (c1820-1909) of DONEAL

In 1855, at the time of Griffith's Valuation Patrick KILRAHIL appears on record in the adjoining townlands of Belville and Donneill (where Patt was living).

Pat had land to his name in Bellville that he shared in partnership with Anne Kilrahil (likely his widowed mother) who lived on this farm in Bellville. So we would expect to find Anne and her husband ? Kilrahil on record there in the 1830s and earlier.

Patt's close neighbours in Dunneill were Laurence Magee, Peter Collery and John Connor. Patrick Feeny was just across the river in Belville.

Patrick Kilrehal & Honor Cunningham of DONEAL had the following children in the RC parish of KILMACSHALGAN:

> Thady Kilrehal of Belville (c.1855-1941) married Alice Anne Costello of Belville (Wit Sam McMunn & Brigid Fox)in the RC parish of Kilmacshalgan. In their civil marriage record Thady's address is Dooneal and his father confirmed as Patt Kilrehal, farmer (still living) Reg. District EASKY in 1882. Res. Dunneill 1901, 1911.

? Brigid Kilrehal aka Kilrehan of Dooneal (c. 1854-1930) married Owen Gilroy of Belville in 1874.

? Honor (godparents for Brigid)

> Anne Kilrehal of Dooneal (c.1860-1945) married Charles Doude of Ballykilcash (Wit Pat Bourke & Margaret Kenny) in the Reg. District of EASKY in 1880

> Catherine (c.1863-1940)

> Michael Kilrethal b.1870 (godparents Sandy & Biddy McDonnell) died in infancy

> Honora (1864-1943)

> John (1865-1845) m. Catherine McGee 1895. Res. Dunneill 1901, 1911.

> Margaret "Peggy" (1868-

> Patrick Kilrehal Jr. b.1872 (godparents Sandy McDonnell & Peggy Kilrehal)

In the 1901 census of Ireland, three households of this name are recorded in the townland of Donneill each spelled differently: KilreHAL, KilreHALE, KilreHIL (all related... Patt and sons Thady (& Alice Costello m1882) and John (aka James & Kate McGee m 1895).

In 1901, Pat (age 80) and his wife Honor ("Anne" / Onnie age 60) were living with their son Pat Jr (age 25) they all spoke Irish & English. Neither Pat nor his wife could read or write, but Pat Jr could. By 1911 Pat & Anne's household was gone.

In 1909, we find Pat and Honor KilreGHIL in Dromore West Hospital (the old workhouse), where they both died within months of each other. See Death Certs Reg. District DROMORE WEST.
