Patrick Kiely was born in Kanturk, Cork around 1837 - according to information given on various Australian records.  His parents were Daniel Kiely and Margaret Canty.  His baptism record from the Parish of Dromtarriffe states that his residence was Clounbanin, Cork.   It is believed that he had 2 siblings who remained in Ireland - Johanna born around 1835 and Denis 1841-1930.   He married Johanna Lalor/Lawlor/Lawler in Marylebone, England in 1863.  Johanna was born around 1842 in Ballyduff, County Kerry.  They migrated to Queensland, Australia in 1865.  They had 10 children - 2 born in England and 8 in Australia.    Their son John born in 1872 was my grandfather.  After Johanna's death in 1877, Patrick married Irish widow Margaret Malone in Warwick, QLD.  They had 2 sons together.  Patrick died in Brisbane, Queensland in 1914.

Surname spelling became confused in various Australian records, with Kiley and Kieley taking over from Kiely.
