Migrated to/Born in New Zealand

Samuel Nelson was born about 1824 in Belfast, Ireland and died 2nd December 1897 in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.

We believe he moved to England sometime before 1851, as we found a Samuel Nelson born Ireland, journeyman tailor, lodging in Albert Cottage, Leamington Priors, Warwickshire, England, in the 1851 England Census.

Samuel married 20 Aug 1859 in St Martins in the Field, Middlesex, England to Eliza Martha Harper.   The marriage cert states Samuel was a tailor and his father was James Nelson a weaver.

Samuel and Eliza had 3 children in England, then moved to New Zealand, leaving Gravesend Sept 1864, arriving NZ Jan 1865, after 110 days at sea.   They went on to have another 4 children, and Samuel ran a successful tailoring business in NZ.   Samuel moved to Australia approx 5 years before his death.

Samuel's 1897 death cert states his father was James Nelson, weaver, and mother Mary Brison/Bryson.   We believe this information was supplied by his daughter who he was living with at the time of his death and presume she would have the correct info.

We have not found a birth record for Samuel, nor marriage or death records for James and Mary.  We do not know if Samuel had any siblings.

We do have DNA matches to people with the surname Bryson, and have YDNA matches to people with the surnames Nelson and Neilson.   Unfortunately, none of the matches have trees that include James and Mary.

This is our brick wall and we are at a loss to know how to break it down.    Any suggestions or information on siblings gratefully received.
