I am attempting to find the parents, siblings, and any other extended family of the following ancestor, Valentine Felty Coile, who, along with his wife Margaret, and three sons, traveled from Ireland to America in about 1764. There is some controversy surrounding Valentine Coile's origins, with some of his modern day ancestors swearing that he originally came from Germany, and they use a "US/Canada Passenger and Immigration" document from around the same date, for one Volentine Kile, from Germany, as proof that we was originally from Germany. However, I have found a similar "US/Canada Passenger and Immigration" document for Valentine Coile, and it lists 1764, as his sailing date. Unfortunately, it does not list the country from whence he sailed. I would appreciate any information about Valentine Coile's possible relatives in Ireland, from anyone that may be 'in the know.'

Here is what I know about Valentine Felty Coile, from a brief biography written by Kitturah Beatrice Westenhouser, whose great grandmother was a direct ancestor of Valentine Coile.

"Valentine Felton 'Felty' Coile/Coyle, and his wife Margaret, and their three sons, arrived in America in the early 1700's, from Ireland. They settled in Augusta County, Virginia. For some members of the family, the name is spelled Coyle, Coyl, Coile, Coil, Kile, and/or Kyle. But for Felty Coile, it was spelled Coile, or later, Coyle. Later, some of his grandsons dropped the 'e' from the last name, and spelled in only as 'Coil.' Valentine and Margaret purchased 230 acres of farm property on the 17th of November, 1761. It was located on the south branch of the Potomac River, above Trout Rock. Prior to that time, Valentine and his sons had leased property from the Scottish/Irish Settlement Company, then managed by Patrick Martin. By the time his eldest son Gabriel moved the family to Ohio, many land deeds and legal documents had the last name spelled as Coyle.

Kurt Coil, a cousin of mine [Kitturah Westenhouser], got a DNA test [2008], and found that there was no German at all in the findings. The R1b element in his DNA placed him in the west of Ireland, where the majority of the population has this same gene.

Valentine and Margaret's children are as follows:

1. Gabriel, b. Ireland, 1728, d. America, 1812.

2. George, b. Ireland, 1730, d. America, 1787.

3. Jacob, b. Ireland, 1736, d. America, 1810.

4. Elizabeth, b. America, 1738, d. America, 1766.

5. Martin, b. America, 1740, d. America, 1779.

6. Barbara, b. America, 1742, d. America, 1766"
