Migrated to/Born in UK

My Grandfather William Murphy was born in Ireland and the surviving family members (grandchildren) always understood he was born in Kanturk, County Cork. His date of birth is uncertain but is most likely within the range 1879-1884.  He left Ireland at a young age, possibly with a brother, and went to Wales, UK.  He married my Grandmother (Ellen Hennessy, born in Mountain Ash, Wales of Irish parents) in 1908 and that is the start of the only paper trail we have relating to William.  The Marriage Certificate stated that his father was John Murphy. The Witnesses to the Marriage were Charles Murphy and Julia Hallsham.

On the 1921 Census for Wales William stated that he was born in Banteer, Co. Cork. This is of course near to Kanturk.  Although William never went back to Ireland he kept in touch with a person in Kanturk. We do not know her name but it is believed he called her his "sister", but she may not have been. After William's death in 1950 in Wales someone from Kanturk visited his Widow but no one currently alive can be completely sure who that was. It is thought she was the daughter of his "sister" and was called May. That person did keep in touch with William's Widow for many years sending shamrocks on St. Patrick's Day, etc.

So far we have been unable to identify William's parents or find his date of birth. There are several possibilities but much more research is needed.
