  • Hi.   My husband also has a REED/REID line from the Eglish area.

James Reed/Reid, b.abt 1810 and Mary Shanahan born about the same time.  Their 6 children were all baptized in an Eglish church (RC) in the Eglish area.   Their children were all born between 1831 and 1846 :    John, Anne, James, Mary, Bridget and Mamie.  We have their baptism records from the church records.

Anne, my husband's ancestor, immigrated and landed in Yonkers NY.   She married Hugh WALSH and remained there until death in 1914.

The only family knowledge we have is that Anne had a sister, Mamie, who married a McGowan.  We have no idea if the sister came to the States also or what his given name was.

Have you done a DNA test ?   My husband's is at most companies:   Ancestry, FTDNA, MyHeritage, 23andME, and Gedmatch.

  • Well met Nancy,

I have noticed that the Reeds of Eglish I am researching were Church of England. I am not sure of the religious distinctions of the times in that county.

I am on AncestryDNA, FamilyTreeDNA and reuploading to GEDMatch now. GEDmatch ID: A869781. Happy to compare, but I am still trying to confirm through DNA that the William Reed marriage to Mary Ann Edwards are my direct ancestors.

    Regards,
    Paul.

  • Hello!! I’ve been researching my Reid (Reed possibly) Lynch who we thought were from Borrisokane but I am now believing we’re from closer to Cloughjordan. So what I do know is that my ggg family Michael Reid and Bridget (Lynch) were married in 1855 in Borrisokane. Their sponsers at their wedding were Thomas Lynch and Ellen Gavan who were married the next year. They had two sons William (1857) and Thomas (1858) also in Borrisokane. They left Ireland in 1859 for NYC. They were Roman Catholic too so prob not related to your relations but I just couldn’t miss the opportunity to talk to other REIDs so close.... Anyhow just trying to eliminate so I can find his and her parents. Thanks and Happy New Year!!!
