Margaret (Maggie) Barrett was born in Mountbellew, County Galway on 24 March 1865. She emigrated to the United States in 1882.She married James Melody, also of Ireland, on 12 February 1885 in Independence, Buchanan County, Iowa. By 1900, the couple had moved to Fate, Rockwall County Texas. James Melody died there on 20 December, 1902. There were six children from this marriage. Margaret died 25 April 1929. DNA results indicate that Margaret Barrett may have had some degree of relation to Anna Barrett, born in Roscommon approximately 1830. This Anna Barrett had a son, William Stewart, who was born in Killian, County Galway, in May 1860.
